The Green Mountain Boys & the New York Spy, The Wilburton's revolutionary murder mystery takes you back to the wild days of the Vermont Republic for a weekend of songs, suspense, and surprises featuring Ethan and Ira Allen and the Green Mountain Boys, military leader Seth Warner and their cousin - how could you forget- Remember Baker (and his lovely wife, Desire Baker). George Washington and Benedict Arnold debate military tactics. The tavern bar pours out historic drinks, like the Stone Fence, and the inn keeper hears all the secrets.

Wilburton and Vermont History
The mystery has a direct Wilburton connection. The first biography of Ira Allen, the often overlooked brother who helped found the state of Vermont, was written by James Wilbur, a member of the New York Historical Society and the builder and owner of The Wilburton. His two volume biography, Ira Allen: Founder of Vermont, was written in 1928. The performance also celebrates the 250th anniversary of Vermont’s declaration of independence in January 1777.

The tradition of mystery weekends at The Wilburton began 30 years ago when innkeeper Georgette Wasserstein Levis wrote a murder mystery homage, The Brothers Rosenblood, to her sister, Wendy Wasserstein’s Broadway hit, The Sisters Rosensweig. Since 2013, Tajlei Levis, known for writing vintage literary musicals, like Edith Wharton’s Glimpses of the Moon, has created new mystery events each year, inspired by Wilburton and local Vermont history.

Recent mysteries include THE MURDER AT WIT’S END. It is 1924, and Alexander Woollcott - New York Times drama critic and literary influencer- has invited select guests to join his famous friends - Harpo Marx, Irving Berlin, Dorothy Parker and other witty members of the Algonquin Round Table- as members of an exclusive Vermont island club for the coming season. A rave review from Woollcott could make any book a bestseller, any play a hit, so Broadway producers, authors and stars are competing for favor in battles of wits, songs, and parlor games. Prospective members will have to play Woollcott’s favorite game of croquet (and he cheats) and solve The Murder Game. Some are vying to win. Others are dying to get in.
SYNOPSIS of THE DANGEROUS DIVORCEE:
It is 1938, and the head of RKO Studios (famous for King Kong, Citizen Kane, screwball comedies and the Fred Astaire & Ginger Rogers movie musicals) is holding a secret production meeting at The Wilburton for his new film. In a clash of ambition and revenge, the stars and rival executives compete to make the greatest RKO studio production. Everyone is dying to be a part of it! Will this swanky soiree include getting away – with murder?
Guests are invited to join the scheming stars, dance in top hats and tails, ‘put on the Ritz’, take a screen test, and compare clues to try to solve the mystery of THE DANGEROUS DIVORCEE.
