Glimpses of the Moon: A Jazz Age Musical

The Levis family invites the community to join us for theatrical and musical events at the Wilburton throughout the year.  Our grand living room -- graced by a portrait of our mother, Innkeeper Georgette Wasserstein Levis and a poster of The Sisters Rosensweig,  penned by her sister, Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Wendy Wasserstein -- is a jewel box setting for performances.

GLIMPSES OF THE MOON: A JAZZ AGE MUSICAL Saturday March 2, at 8PM

Our first musical theatre event of 2019 will be a presentation of the Jazz Age Musical, Glimpses of the Moon— a romantic comedy based on the 1922 novel by Edith Wharton.   Dessert and cocktails will be available, starting at 7:30 with the performance starting at 8 PM.

A sparkling romantic musical, Glimpses of the Moon is based on one of Edith Wharton’s rare comedies. Set in 1922, an age of anything but innocence, Glimpses of the Moon follows the jazzy whirl of Manhattan and Newport society.  With plenty of friends but little money, Susy Branch and her friend Nick Lansing devise a clever scheme to live beyond their means. They’ll marry and live off the wedding gifts, while they help one another trade up to suitable millionaires.  The plan works perfectly – until they fall in love.

Glimpses of the Moon premiered at The Oak Room of the Algonquin Hotel in Manhattan to rave reviews. It was directed by Marc Bruni (Beautiful) with choreography by Denis Jones (Holiday Inn) starring Patti Murin (Frozen). The show has since been produced by professional and community theatres across the country. Playwright/lyricist/innkeeper Tajlei Levis and composer John Mercurio have organized this event to celebrate the 10th anniversary of this delightful musical comedy. On Sunday morning at 10:00, John and Tajlei will host a discussion about the creative process of developing a new musical.
